women in business
WIB is a student-run club through the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business. Their goals are that all members will gain a sense of empowerment, individually and collectively. Members will build connections both professionally that will have lasting impacts on their lives. Women involved in the club will gain exposure to a wide variety of careers and industries that they can connect with. Through skill-building workshops, professional speakers, and networking events, WIB gives women the resources they need to network successfully in the professional world and create long-lasting relationships.
What is WIB?
I am a part of the Marketing Department which consists of five other team members. We work together to carry out different marketing campaigns while each specializing in one area of the creative process (Instagram content, Instagram communication, blog, email, meeting recaps, and graphics). This year I got the chance to create graphics for a variety of different events, participate in photography and video, and post on Instagram featuring different members of the club.
My Role
Caption: “Our February Member of the Month is Nicole Reagan!! Nicole is a graduating senior from Corvallis, OR. She plans to graduate with a BS in Business with a Marketing concentration and a BA in Spanish. She has been a loyal UO WIB member for almost 4 years and has joined the WIB ambassador program. While finishing up at the University, Nicole says “I hope everyone can be as inspired by WIB as I was when I joined. The club gave me a network of women from which I could ask advice, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams of working in international business! I’ll always treasure my time with WIB,” she says. Nicole has done an amazing job working for the Ambassador team and we are excited to see what she does in the future.”
Caption: “Our March Member of the Month is Xcaret!! She is a Sophomore double majoring in Business and Journalism with minors in Multimedia and Korean. Xcaret is a first-generation Latinx student who grew up in Seaside, Oregon but was born in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. She works for the Latinx Studies program as a Latinx Ambassador and is a part of the Dreamer Student Advisory Board both at the UO. She is also the Panhellenic assistant for her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. Xcaret says “I joined WIB my freshmen year and have recently been an ambassador for the club. This program as well as others I have participated in during my time at the UO have made my college experience so fulfilling. My favorite part about WIB has been making the welcome packets with the ambassadors and a couple of girls from exec,” she says. Xcaret has done amazing work for our club and other areas around the school. We are so lucky to have her and see what her future holds.”
Caption: “Our April Member of the Month is Mia Fast! Mia is a Junior from Portland, Oregon, set to graduate next year with a BS in Journalism and minors in Business Administration and English. She has been involved in WIB since last year and has been on the ambassador team since the Fall! She also works as an editor for the Unbound Literary Journal on campus. Mia says “My favorite part about WIB has been, hands down, the community. It’s rare to find such a large group of amazing, talented women and yet this club has introduced me to so many of them! Working with them all has truly transformed my college experience. The memories and friendships I’ve made within the club are some I’ll have for years to come,” she says. We are so grateful Mia is in our club and for the wonderful work, she has done with the ambassador team.”
Each month I highlighted a Member of the Month to recognize all of the hard work they had done for the club. Each member addresses what they love about WIB and plans they might have for the future. Attached below are some examples of these highlights on Instagram.

QUESTIONS:
What are three words to describe WIB?
Why did you join WIB?
What is your favorite part of WIB?
Do you have a favorite WIB memory?
What is something you gained from WIB?
Angela Gotera: “I joined WIB because I wanted to work with and hear from successful women in the business industry instead of hearing stories only from men. Three words to describe WIB would be supportive, connected, and motivating.”
Sadie McBride: “My favorite part of WIB is the connections I’ve made! My mentor who graduated last year got me a paid opportunity to work for the production company she’s currently at! The connections I’ve made through WIB have actually helped me develop personal and career relationships!”
Jane Barker: “My favorite part about WIB is the fire 2000s playlist that we listen to at the beginning of each meeting. OR the genuine community of talented women who have been more than welcoming to me during my first year in the club! I joined WIB because I had only heard fantastic things about the club and I wanted to experience it myself!”
At the end of the 2022 school year, I reached out to a variety of different members of WIB to find out more about why they joined the club and their favorite parts. Below are some examples of students’ responses and what they value most
